Crow/Clay & Associates - Projects

Beaverton School District Barnes Elementary

Beaverton, Oregon
The expansion of Barnes has included 12 new classrooms, restrooms, and a new entry. The project has also included renovations/remodel to existing administration area, media center, kitchen, and cafeteria. Special attention was paid to daylighting in the project, taking advantage of the building’s East to West orientation with clerestories and high windows to allow for optimum daylight penetration. Other sustainable design features of the project include interior lighting connected to photo cells and time clocks to maintain constant light levels during the day, acoustical tile and metal siding containing high recycled material content, and premium efficiency and variable speed pumps and motors.

The expansion provides a new set of aesthetic experiences through the design team’s use of light and space for students, faculty, and staff, while improving functionality and efficiency and communicating successfully with the existing building.
